The US bond market trades 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday to Friday. It closes on the holidays below, following the recommendations published by SIFMA (the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association). On early-close days trading ends at 2:00 PM ET - 12:00 PM ET on Good Friday 2026. Note that SIFMA's recommendations differ from the stock exchanges: the bond market closes on Columbus Day and Veterans Day, when the NYSE stays open. Each holiday links to its own page.

Regular trading runs 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday. On SIFMA-recommended early-close days the market shuts at 2:00 PM ET - and at 12:00 PM ET on Good Friday 2026. SIFMA early closes do not change settlement times.
Is the bond market open on Good Friday?
It depends on the year. For 2026 SIFMA recommends an early close at 12:00 PM ET on Good Friday (April 3, 2026) rather than a full close. For 2027 it recommends a full close on Good Friday (March 26, 2027), with a 2:00 PM ET early close the day before. US stock exchanges are fully closed on Good Friday in both years.
Is the bond market open on Columbus Day or Veterans Day?
No. The bond market closes on both, following SIFMA's recommendation - even though the NYSE and Nasdaq stay open. That catches people out every year.
Does the bond market ever close early?
Yes. SIFMA recommends a 2:00 PM ET early close on several days around holidays - typically the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday), Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and the trading day before some other holidays. Why is the bond market closed when the stock market is open?
The bond market follows SIFMA's recommendations, not the stock exchanges' calendar. SIFMA recommends closing on Columbus Day and Veterans Day, while the NYSE and Nasdaq stay open on both. The reverse also happens: the bond market is open on some days stocks are closed. That is why this site tracks the two schedules separately.
